So glad I found this app tonight🙏🏻 I don’t know

So glad I found this app tonight:pray:t2: I don’t know why I never thought to look for one before. I am 12 days sober & tobacco free. Mostly good days but this afternoon was a struggle saying no. Sometimes I get so tired of analyzing my thoughts. I thought “what do normal people do to zone out from their thoughts”. And then I picked up a book:) I’m definitely finding if I just remove myself from a situation and read a book or pray or play a stupid game on my phone, it helps distract me long enough for the cravings to pass but I know it won’t always be easy. I’m trying to take one day at a time. Makes me angry though that my husband shows me no support & drinks & smokes as if nothing has changed.

Welcome! And congrats on the 12! That’s outstanding.
Look at it from your husbands point of view. If he is a normie and not alcoholic, he technically doesn’t need to change. And as humans we don’t like change. I know it always made my anxiety spike. I will say tough, honest conversations need to happen between the two of you. And even tougher decisions may need to made as well. It will work out the way it does. Being sober will give you the tools needed to deal with whatever happens, with a clear soul.
Good luck to you.

The changes you are making are for you.don't allow someone else's choices to affect yours.you are creating a better life for you. your future is limitless.only you can give someone the power to take that away from you.you are doing great!! Remember..this is your journey, you determine the outcome.

Thanks James. You’re exactly right. I just wish my husband would be healthier for himself.

Maybe he will once he sees the positive changes you make.maybe the example you create will be the motivation he needs.

I’ve often thought that. He’s done it before a few years back. He’s just so stressed & has a lot on his plate. I know it’s hard to take the first step but I also know he’d be able to handle his stress better if he stopped drinking & smoking

Stress does crazy things to our minds and body. what helped me was doing things where I couldn't drink or smoke like walking,hiking..active things.do activities with little ones really helped me.it got me out of my own head and helped me remember the simple joys that life offers us.

Congratulations on your 12.. I repeat the serenity prayer when I get disgusted with the people around me to except the things I cannot change.. I know I can’t change them .. so I have to keep changing myself.. I’m only responsible for myself.. and when I answer to the good Lord.. so please ask Him for peace of mind and strength..

Yes! I didn’t need alcohol as a child to have joy. I don’t need it now!

Congratulations! One day at a time! Prayer is miraculous. Listening to Gospel music helps. I’m certain you’ll lead by example and your husband will follow soon enough. Stay strong :muscle:t3:

I suggest. Go to meetings. Read the big book and get a sponsor.
