So I’m feeling very nervous this coming week i have

So I’m feeling very nervous this coming week i have friends and family coming into town to visit me. They want to take me out for a little early birthday celebration. Of course all of them drink and indulge in drugs as i used to do. So I’m going to be around it and I’m praying that temptation does not get the best of me. Any pointers on how to say no without offending anyone.

Of course, the obvious solution would be not to expose yourself to that situation, easier said than done sometimes. Do they know you are in recovery? Sometimes telling friends/family will cause them to act with a little respect for your decision. If you didn't want to mention it, can you limit the using to one area/room, outside, where you consider off limits to yourself. If its just drinking, you could keep a cup with you so no one takes the liberty to get you a drink. Just be on guard when/if the temptation shows up. Maybe call your sponsor or another addict beforehand share your concerns before the party starts.

Eezy peezy bro...
"Nah im good"
"Can't today" (tap your tummy)
Lol..no one wants the smoke from that tummy tap conversation

Might be helpful to give them a heads up that you're not drinking (using) now, despite it's your birthday. They can 'have one for you'!
:sparkles: SERENITY PRAYER :call_me_hand:
Commit to calling your sponsor before and after going out. Also, know you can step out during the dinner/event to call a sober friend.
Each time you succeed it will get easier.
