So I’m in a situation where I had to train a new co worker and in return he gave me bottle of alcohol as a thank you but I didn’t tell him I’m recovering alcohol and that I don’t drink anymore
I wouldn’t overthink this situation as I’ve been there before. You simply say thank you and you appreciate the gift. If you choose to tell him at a later time when your more comfortable than that’s up to you.
Find someone fast and regift that sucker!
I was going to say the same thing LOL
Yep, regift it.
I honestly would have said Thank you but no. I wouldn't want people making a habit of buying me booze as gifts.
I mean, if someone tried to gift me cocaine I would say no!
I didn’t really over think about neither did I have a urge to drink it
I’m gonna get rid of it
Yup gonna do something similar
You could just pour it down the drain. I'm just saying.
You could also just say you don't drink. It's your own business that you are an alcoholic
Appreciate the kind gesture of your co-worker, who doesn't know your situation, and re-gift it to someone who can enjoy it responsibly.
Hey, sometimes everyone doesn’t have to know everything. You didn’t drink it so you’re doing good. Give it to a “normie” lol
Yeah you can give it to a ‘normie’ or just throw it out
Yes regift it lol
There are options for managing this in the office, perhaps even more than what I mention here.
- Politely say: I understand you are giving me a gift as a thank you. I don't accept alcohol as a gift. And return the gift to the person. It's about showing others what is acceptable within my boundaries.
- Knowing alcohol is a toxicant, I won't regift a bottle of alcohol to another person.
- Pour the contents of the bottle down the drain.
