So I recently had an epiphany the other day. I really don’t have the urge to use right now. The reason being is I no longer want to lose control of myself. I enjoy having control over my mind and actions. I turned 34 two weeks ago and I thought to myself. I really have been using on and off for 25 years of my life. That’s crazy more than half of my life was clouded. Not all the time but pretty much my whole life. There were numerous times last year where I had no control over myself at all and that alone is scary. Last year was one of the worst years I had in life. Being blackballed/canceled by almost all my friends and everyone I know really hurt my soul. I felt like nothing. When I checked into detox last September the people I was with made me feel like someone again. And there was a girl there that I met who actually got pretty close to me. I shared things with her that I never shared with anybody before. And no we were not romantically involved. We both actually are respecting each other and are going the 1 year before any relationships. Yea there is some sort of chemistry but we are both focusing on ourselves. I went away to another rehab and then long term. When I got to long term I messaged her to see how she was doing. And she’s been my number one fan since. She has been the one encouraging me to follow my dreams the last 7 months and says she is proud of me all the time. She’s hours away but we still talk here and there to see how each other is doing. My roommate at detox still contacts me as well and me and him check in all the time. I really want to do something for these people that helped me save myself but I don’t know what yet. I want to send them a gift each or visit them individually. I want to show my appreciation to them but I’m not sure how. Any suggestions?

You staying sober is the best gift you can give them!

I am reminded of a sermon I heard. The minister was saying that he didn't want a funeral after he died. If the flowers were gonna come he wanted to see them. He said give me my flowers while I'm alive. What he was saying is show me you love me now not when I'm gone. Honor me if I've influenced you. I said that to say, honor them and let them know how you feel. If it is in cards or calls, give them their props now.
Thanks for the advice
