So I’ve been accepted into the Peer Pride Internship with the Educational Alliance…I’m gonna be a Peer Navigator, which is hilarious cuz I can barely navigate my way from bedroom to coffee pot. Originally, I thought “Pride” meant I’d be working with LGBTQ kids, but no…I’ll be meeting 1:1 and facilitating groups of 18-25 year olds in the sort of residential setting that’s a sort of halfway point between detox and/or prison and “the real world”. They may or may not identify as LGBTQ, but they’ll definitely be kids who have trouble controlling their emotions. And I’m supposed to be their “Navigator,” which is hilarious, cuz, y’know.
The pros of this job are that it’ll give me the hours I need to become fully certified (right now I have provisional certification, contingent on putting in the hours and passing an exam) and it comes with opportunities for professional development.
The only con is it doesn’t come with any salary, but I have a few dollars stashed away, and I’m making a little bit of income with my writing, and some more income selling off the clothes that are too big, and…I’m probably gonna end up bankrupt, but I won’t be an unpaid intern forever.
The onboarding process is a process. Later on today I have to go for the “updated” COVID-19 booster, I have to get letters of recommendation together, and I don’t even know when my first day will be. I don’t know anything about anything.
But, I met the “team” of people I’ll be working with & they seem decent. So, having not heard from any of the paid positions I applied for, I’m gonna roll with the internship.

will open when it’s time.
