So many of my experiences were drunken experiences

Experiencing the places and activities, where we were always drunk or high before, are almost brand new to us. That's the hardest times to not use/drink. It's like learning who we really are.

Being a drunk was such a part of who I was, sometimes I'm not sure who I am without it. It's also making me question why I'm friends with some of the people I'm friends with. I never took myself or my value seriously before, so I surrounded myself with like-minded people. By which I mean people who don't take me seriously. My alcoholism was kind of a joke to most of them, as it was to me.

Since my meds have been keeping my depression and anxiety under control, the desire to self-medicate with alcohol has been, overall, quite low, but activities and places can still trigger urges.

I just wanted to get these thoughts out. Thanks for reading.

All of those feelings and thoughts have run through most of our minds as well. I remember the first time I golfed after getting sober… it was terrible. I felt like it was the first time I was swinging a club, and all I was thinking is I need a beer to do this. It gets better and easier… and a lot more fun to be honest.

I was just talking about this the other day!

I'd literally never been to any beach sober until the last 2 weeks. It was shocking, just how wonderful it was. And now that I'm not drinking, I can actually deal with the heat and get to experience all the junk I was too hammered for.

The not taking you seriously part really hits home for me.
