Sober almost 8 months and struggling with anger and loneliness. Single mom who didn’t consider myself an addict just someone who wanted to have fun with my family and friends - brother and brother in law both passed from heroin overdoses and left 2 alcoholic husbands. I’ve definitely drank a lot and drugs recreationally in past but always thought I could take or leave them. Being a parent is most important things to me and my girls are better off with me totally sober so after being just a once in a while drinker single mom to some really rough stuff and suddenly around family and friends who were drinking and smoking pot again and I thought I could handle it - really I just wanted to escape the pain of loving and losing addicts and I just stopped caring much...and things got worse and worse, lost my job, got evicted and my poor girls had to live in a shelter for 6 months with me, so almost 8 months sober and I only miss it once in awhile, like it would be relaxing to have a glass of wine but I know I can’t cuz it’d b the bottle, but yeah, angry and lonely. Did a couple recovery programs at church but never AA. looked up a meeting and think I should go tomorrow night. Thanks to anyone who reads this...nice way to ease in with a note online. Very proud of all of u making it a day and more
It’s hard. You’re not alone. I have 7 months. I started AA in October. The first four months I was just dry. Being in a program has made a world of difference. Do yourself a favor and try it out. Thank you for sharing. Check back in after your meeting tomorrow night and let us know how it went. I’m proud of you too

Hi Julie loneliness sucks glad you reached out on here. It’s easy to get mad with watching addiction at work. I think it’s harder on the loved one that watch someone wrapped up in an addiction. I think going to an AA meeting is a good idea for you. Don’t be shy try and talk maybe get some phone numbers meet some new friends. I use this app and chat with people when I need to there is also some good talks to listen to. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey. I can assure you it’s worth it. Was just reading a testimonial on Facebook where a lady destroyed her esophagus from drinking. So it’s not just the liver that gets damaged from drinking. Good luck at your meeting.
Check out the meeting you we’re talking about
You just might hear something thats appealing, you just might want to keep coming back to find out what some of these people are so happy about.
Like Wedad said “check back in after your meeting and let us know how it went.”
The lie is dead we do recover
I do AA online and I love it!! Very convenient and I don’t have to make the time to drive the 40 minutes to make it to a meeting. It’s been a savior for me!
Do AA all the way. Give yourself and your girls the best chance.
Julie I am so grateful you are here. I’m a single dad with 2 girls and I can only imagine the difficulty and stress of being in a shelter. Oh my god my heart breaks.
12 steps saved my life. They show you a way of life where you don’t need to numb out or escape. It’s crazy at first to get rid of everything and do something completely new and different, but the results speak for themselves.
There are many great programs out there. AA is the biggest and most recognized but if you read a few posts on here you’ll see dharma, luckiest club, smart, tempest, and lots more. Try them until you find the one that aligns with you and the life you can achieve.
The great thing about AA or anyone who has gone through addiction is they will do anything for you. Reach out!
Ive got 2+ years, not bragging. The anger gets better, especially if you try. I still have problems with loneliness I didn’t have when I used. It’s good you want to go to meetings, go. I didn’t want to and my first 6 months could have been so much better with the support it get there rather than going it alone. Best wishes, you can do it.
AA is my hope and my tribe! I would recommend going to a meeting. Everyone’s recovery looks different though!
You got this. I have faith in you!
Proud of you. Thank you for sharing.
Your a strong one ! Your girls need u sober ! Don’t give up u can do it ! So proud of u
Hi Julie! Thank you for sharing part of your story with us. You are setting an amazing example staying sober. Many people lean on programs to guide them through sobriety, I think it’s a great idea to check out an AA meeting! Good luck to you!
