I’m grateful to be sober on my birthday this year. My phone has been blowing up all day since 12:01am. Family and friends have made me feel so special today. Perhaps the best part of all is that I can feel it and accept it this year. Previous years I did receive lots of love and well wishes, but the feelings of being loved never stuck like it does today. The good feelings were always negated by my shame, guilt, and self hatred. Today just feels different. Today I feel I am deserving of love and admiration. Recovery has made this all possible. It hasn’t been all rainbows and unicorns. Recovery isn’t always pretty. However, the hard work I’ve put in over the past 18 plus months is really paying dividends today
