Sober Dating

I’ve been thinking about putting myself back out there and “dating.” Divorced a few years now, have a teenage son with his own life, and blessed with a year of sobriety. Tried a few dating apps, but the whole experience is down right exhausting. Have some great sober peers and I’ve spent a lot of this year in the fellowship and being of service. But, I have to admit it would be nice to have someone in my life that is sober, like minded, and I’ll say it…someone I have a connection and mutual chemistry with. Anyone have tips on being sober and navigating the dating game? Seems to be an appropriate topic of conversation on a Saturday night…..

Yes, usually the first thing proposed in person or on an app is “Do you want to get a drink?” Because, let’s face it…that’s what people do, right? Icebreaker, liquid courage, etc. I guess I need to get over the “awkwardness” of that proposition. And at the same time, remembering I don’t have to share every detail about why I don’t drink. At least not initially. But my sobriety is such a huge part of my life, I am not sure I could even have a meaningful conversation with someone without disclosing my sober status.
