Sober friend

My first decent sober friend I’ve met in AA relapsed this weekend. This blows!! Tried to get her back to a meeting. Her sponsor called me. The whole thing sucks! I’m 6 months in making friends, sharing horror stories, laughing about them. And my bestie hits the bottle. With radio silence now :expressionless:

Hang in there Cathy! Same thing happened to me. The one person that I could relate to, the one person that showed me the path relapsed and left this world after a year and a half into my sobriety. I’m still close with his family and eternally grateful for the people I met through him in the program. We are all one giant recovery family with our own recovery journeys! My prayers are with you and your friend!!! Prayers that she returns safely!!!!

That’s what we do.
The miracle is when we go 24 hours without a drink.

Very sorry about your friend.

It really is a journey. And I feel a little lost. The good thing is tonight I got 2 calls from people in the program asking how I’m doing. People on this site, like you, give well received advice. Thank you

So sorry. Remember nothing could have stopped them from drinking. Just try to be there when they reach back out. Don’t let that draw you away from you saving your life. I have a friend that was always going back out. Last time she ended up in the hospital she prayed to god that if she got through it she would never drink again. So I guess spiritual awakening. She hasn’t picked up a drink and immediately got back into meetings. You stay strong for you. We can’t stay strong for everyone else.:pray::pray::pray:

Hang in there remember the journey is yours and yours only be grateful you got to see how cunning and baffling this disease is learn from their mistake . I lost my sponsor to a auto accident it killed me inside but I didn’t drink and the lessons I learned from him while he was here I am grateful for . In life people
Come and go all the time for reasons we don’t know but we need to trust and keep keeping on .

Wow. Sorry about your sponsor. I saw what I don’t want to do. So yes - my eyes wide open. She’s back to AA today. And she was welcomed with open arms. :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s hard to put yourself out there in meetings to strangers. But as you keep going, faces become familiar. And the occasional head nod turns to conversation :slightly_smiling_face:

Have you been to any in person recovery meetings?

Oh ok.

Say a prayer for her get on your knees and recite the Serenity Prayer. That's what my sponsor told me to do
