Sober Intro

Hello everyone!

I am new here, and just looking for friends going through the same thing. I have been heavily drinking for about 15 and I am currently on day 2 of attempting to be sober. Alcohol has started to affect my body, mind, health and relationships. I am ready to do better and quit. I can’t wait to read about all your stories. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Welcome to the rest of your life.Get close to God-no matter how you feel about him.He can and will embrace you in a loving way.I would recommend getting an experienced sponsor. We have a disease of perception.

Nataly, have you gone to any meetings? If you can’t in person, there are some online.

Welcome!!! I drank very heavily in my early 50s. Finally knew I had to quit. I’ve been sober for 11 years as of yesterday! You can do this - and it may be one minute at a time but just hang on as you’re going to love the ride!

Welcome! You are among friends and great support!

Congrats on day 2. You came to the right place. Lots of encouraging people here.

Welcome! I’m m 15 days sober, relapsed, but prior to that I was sober 3 months. I’ve gone up to 17 months sober. It’s tricky because the longer you go the more stable you feel and the easier it is to convince yourself you can handle alcohol again… not the case for me. Seek some sort of help! I did SMART recovery for a while and now in therapy. AA is good too, but personally never vibed with it. Looking forward to seeing your journey!

You go to a meeting and start talking to people. When you find one with a lot of wisdom to share you ask them if they will sponsor you. You should be able to tell who has wisdom by what they share in the meeting, and pay attention when at the end of the meeting who raises their hands when the chairperson asks for “all those who have been through the steps and are available to sponsor please raise your hands”, pick one of the people who raises their hands but has also shared something meaningful in the meeting. Those, THOSE are the ones who truly understood the program, higher power, and the disease of alcoholism/addiction.
