Sober life with drunk friends?

Have you brought it to their attention to see if any of them would be open to a booze free day? It doesn't always occur to them that it is happening since they are not the ones getting sober. It may just take you asking some of your old friends and they may oblige.
I know that wasn't on my mind when i was drinking.

We tend to think that everyone and everything revolves around drinking. But the truth is that when we were actively drinking, we became friends with the people who drank like us, and avoided people who “didn’t know how to have fun” or “couldn’t hang”. We isolated from people who would be critical of our more questionable behavior.

So once we dry out but before we hit our stride in recovery, we are in that no man’s land where we don’t drink but we haven’t found our sober posse yet. My number one suggestion is to immerse yourself in a program of sobriety. But if a fellowship of people who know exactly what you’re going through isn’t your thing, I’d recommend going hiking, kayaking, or to a meetup doing something you love, with people who don’t know the old you. You’ll be amazed at how many people just don’t drink.

Honestly I think I’m just outgrowing many people and drinking is the plus 1

I remember when I did drink.. everything evolved around drinking.. we wouldn’t eat at a restaurant unless they served alcohol.. I got up on weekends drinking and everything I did even garage selling.. I had a drink in my hand.. me and my husband drank at home.. God only knows how much I would love to have all the money I spent on it.. but since I stopped I stopped going to those places.. bars.. outings where all my (friends) drank.. but Tuesday was my birthday and a couple of old drinking friends took me out to lunch and had me a cake made.. but when we ordered I of course ordered unsweetened tea..and they in turn did the same.. I was pleased but told them if they wanted a drink to go ahead.. it doesn’t bother me to be around others that drink.. or in a restaurant that serves alcohol.. I never even think about it anymore.. it became a way of life for me.. if your friends don’t respect you enough to not drink around you or it bothers you to be around them while they drink.. by all means stay away from them.. not everyone drinks.. find a hobby.. find something you enjoy doing without drinking.. art, museums, and if all else fails go to an AA meeting.. prayers

I’m actively working out daily and attend a new church and I join their ladies night tomorrow and I’m excited. Thanks for your insight it makes so much sense.

Outgrowing the old people, places and things is a humongous step, and a sign that you are on the right track!

Thank you! I feel good
