I'm in sober living for the first time and feeling a little overwhelmed. I have to do PHP 5 days a week, 5 meetings and they want 10 hours of community service a week. Is this normal??
Yeah thats totally normal. In my php, we did group from 9-3, then went to the gym, then a meeting Monday through Friday. Then it was gym and some sort of activity on the weekends.
You can do it. Its not forever and it gives you a lot of structure, trust me.
Yes, that is normal. The discipline and structure that it helps instill was good for me, especially after a relapse. The last php/iop that I attended was very AA heavy, which was what I needed. As Danny said, it's not going to be forever.
That sounds normal. Not to bad actually. Take advantage of everything they offer, you may find some things that really help. I always recommend gym and fitness to clients. Working out produces a natural high, increased serotonin and dopamine.
Thank you guys so much for your input!
Yes they keep you busy
@brittany301438 Remember you're in "Sober Living" you're not a Burger King nor Disneyland. You will not have it your way nor, at times, be at the happiest place on earth.
What they are asking is nothing out of the ordinary. Be fortunate that they are not asking for 90 meetings in 90 days. Based on your relapse rate you wouldn't survive.
You can always return to your past life or buckle down and get with the program.
It's called sober living for a reason. You need to discipline to help keep you sober.
Wait until you get this thing called full time employment! Is this a joke
When we are active in our addiction the only demands for our attention and time were scoring and using. The longer we are in active addiction the more work it takes to undo that habit. We have to learn to manage time, emotions, and interactions. It is uncomfortable and frustrating at first. We can feel.like it is too much. But over time we adjust to these demands and expectations.and start looking for more things we can include in our life.
Well said brother, couldn't agree more. There's a transitory period between addiction and recovery that is the hardest part. I'm in sober living myself and it's has given me the time and support necessary to succeed. The more you put in, the more you'll get out.
