New job. Major trade show in Atlanta and I’m one of the new guys. My new boss knows I don’t drink and I told him a bit about my sobriety / AA and he seemed cool with it. All the sales guys go out to the bars and eat on the company’s dime - I met a lot of people who work for my new company that come from all over the country / world. After dinner we went to a bar and these guys are pounding shots and drinking beers and whiskey, I sat there and did my best to socialize but it was tough at times no doubt. One guy turned to me and said “ you’re too quiet. Like really quiet. “ did my best to talk with others but seeing as they all knew each other for years and the booze was flowing - it definitely made the situation a little uncomfortable but hey, I did my best and have to be proud of that. As time goes on I will get more comfortable with my sobriety but I do think this situation would be challenging for anyone in recovery.
