Sobriety has given me the gift of life

After nearly three years in recovery, Sobriety has given me the gift of life. The ability to be truly present in life, and experience the beauty of motherhood and success in my career. With that, also I’ve been given the capacity to feel all of the loneliness and heartbreak that life includes too.

Tell me how you get through the slow days, the quiet, sad days?

My soul feels as though it’s lacking something…

I can relate to this, even though I am just 30 days in. I felt this IN my last relationship. The last 6 years of it were incredibly lonely for me and just gave me more of a reason to self medicate. I am glad I'm out and on the other side, but daπn it leaves you feeling heavy.

Have a great day and don't dwell in the dark places too long.

That's a tough thing to deal with. I'm single 65 and looking at retirement. I stay connected to family and friends.i will look into volunteering. There clubs you can join. I like hiking and found one my speed. If your looking to date try either here or online. I met some nice people there. I had no problems but have heard some stories so be careful. Best of luck reach out anytime

Meetings. Getting plugged into a program. Fellowshipping. Here. Just remember, sobriety always comes first in everything you do. Just don’t pick up and it all works out.

I also can relate to that hole on my soul. No matter how blessed I am, or how well things are going in my life, there always seems to be “something” missing. My soul yearns for “more”. I beat myself up at times for feeling this way. I know I should be grateful for all the blessings I do have. That loneliness, and feelings of sadness can creep up on you when you least expect it.
For me the answer is meditation, and trying to connect with that loving power that I know has my back. If I am to find peace, I need to trust in this power. I don’t want to get too “woo-woo”, but the bottom line is I need to fill up this yearning hole in my sole with some more spirituality rather than people places or things. I’ve done the latter way too much in my past, and I know a new car, a new relationship, a vacation etc are not the answer. Hope you can look inward and feel good about yourself, good about where you are, and confident that your higher power has got you :peace_symbol:

The best part of getting sober for me was the ability to feel all those things. I found new hobbies, started a side hustle, started golfing again… very poorly I may add… meetings helped me meet new people and making the amends with old friends really helped. I have faith you will figure it out.

I feel this. At first, I thought recovery would open doors and possibilities just organically. Besides my children, who are getting older and "needing me" less, I have that emotional void that I used to escape from with drinking. Now that I have been sober for so long, I don't know where to start .
I'm not afraid to put in the work, but its scary and a tricky situation. Do I deserve love and all that ? I guess time will tell!!! :grinning:
