Sobriety in Japan

Hello all. feeling a bit alone. Im in the military and stationed in Japan. Just surrounded by heavy drinking. It’s difficult to find friendships and social environments where drinking isn’t a main activity. On top of that, Japanese views on substance abuse and mental health are antiquated. The only options for me are online sober groups.

Start a group on base. I’m sure if you talk to the chaplain he could help with it. There are probably more people on base than you think that may need a group.

I was stationed in Yokosuka back in 2002-04, so I can totally relate. That's when my drinking and drug use really started...

Definitely talk out loud live out loud. Once you’re up and saying what you want to see there will be people that will see it and join. There will be some that want to join and live a sober life too. I’m military and definitely know where you’re coming from. You got this brother. One day at a time.
