Sobriety while anxious? What tips do you guys have it

Sobriety while anxious? What tips do you guys have if you relied on alchohol as a way to self sooth anxiety and depression? I have a couple social events coming up and the thought of not having booze to feel less socially awkward is daunting.

Also looking for friends here to check in and support each other! :relaxed:

Getting plugged into something. A program. Lots of different ones to choose from. Hope you can find a balance then. Just don’t pick up and everything will work it’s way out.

Thank you. I have some sober friends who I am able to spend good quality time with. Am def looking into some local programs. I have an upcoming music show and that’s the event I am nervous for and will feel odd playing sober. I know I can do it but am mostly looking for things that have helped managed people’s cravings and anxiety.

Walking the dog is my go to when the weather permits. If inside I do some kind of project like painting miniatures. Somehow reading and engaging my mind is less effective when anxious.

I can definitely understand this. I think anxiety is what I suppressed all those years and when I got sober I felt (and still feel it) hard, but I realized it's not a bad thing. It's my body's way of telling me to get up and do something, to be productive. Embrace it as a sign to get into action. As for the performing, I used to think I had to be stoned and have a couple beers to play guitar in front of people and honestly theyre still so connected to playing guitar that after 17 years of playing I've barely touched my guitar in this 1 year of sobriety. I'd recommend not being like me in that sense and keep performing!

I've always experienced anxiety but when I had some sober time it became worse. Suffered anxiety attacks. I did a lot of my own research. Everything from the foods you eat to running & doing the next right thing ( spiritual principles) helped me work towards a healthier life.
