social media ALWAYS bites me in the ass!! every. single. time. i think “oh hey i’ll just scroll for 5 minutes” and within that 5 minutes my brain enlists my emotions to start dumpster fires in my head
(i don’t count this app. that doesn’t happen to me here). anyone else feel the same?
This is the only social media I'm on for that very reason. I tell myself this is the only social media outlet that people show their true self, the messy, honest lives they lead, not the filtered, fake lives of IG, tiktok and FB.
That is just why I have resisted social media. It was designed to hook you. Hell, I have been hooked enough in my life. I now want to be just set the fuck free.
Yup , your not Alone,. IT JUST BECOMES ANOTHER BAD ADDICTION..
Most definitely, within scrolling fb for 5 minutes I see too much shit from my old life so I am slowly eliminating scrolling social media besides all my sober apps and only using fb etc for positive sober update post...
that is exactly what happened to me. instagram is easier because you can mute people (although i’m off that app for right now). facebook is trickier for me because i don’t think you can mute stories. i am a musician and already have to be online. that’s about to change and i really have to get back online. i’ve been trying to train myself to become resistant to the poison. every day gets a little easier. i’m hoping i can get to the point where i just completely don’t care, or figure out a filtration system that can allow me to control what i see…i think that works against the whole point of social media. these “addiction scientists” they hire to operate their platforms want to make sure you get as hooked as quickly, deeply and painfully as possible. how else can they sell ad space?
(not really funny)
Yeah, I got off Facebook about a year and a half ago. I don't miss it at all. This app is the only social media I'm on, and if you include Soundcloud for uploading music.
Same bro! That's why I got this app to keep me away
are you a musician Brittany?
I completely agree! I deleted all my toxic social media apps the first week of recovery and replaced them with sobriety apps! I haven’t even been tempted to go back on them, such a waste of time!
If one was once on Twitter, it only raised the blood pressure, perhaps a function of who one was following…
Newly so. I started taking guitar lessons less than a year ago and got lucky with a great instructor who has also taught me how to record and mix the songs I write. So I've sorta been learning as I write, which has been awesome. How long have you been playing music?
well done Brittany! i know it’s cliche to say this, but music has saved my life on more than one occasion. i’ve been playing for over 20 years now. it’s a journey that’s for sure. i sing and play guitar. if you have any more detailed question, most happy to chat! i don’t want to bog peoples feed with too in-depth a side chat
Yup. It was also triggering me during my first 2 weeks of sobriety. With everything opening up, all the post were about people out at dinner drinking, at clubs drinking, at the beach drinking, everywhere everyone was drinking. I took a month off social media and downloaded this app. It helped me so much. I focused more on people in recovery just like me instead of triggers and reminders of a part of my life that was causing me more harm than good.
I am 61. I always wished I could play an instrument. I was always drinking too much to put forth the effort. I may try getting a teacher
