Big Sur/Northern CA is a great spot for hiking and exploring if you're into the outdoors! I've done many a solo trip to that area. Super peaceful and unreal scenery.

As do I! If you ever make it up that way, head even further north to Humboldt and check out the redwoods there and also the Lost Coast trail.
