Hey. Had 12 years...relapsed six months ago. Lost everything. The thing about a clear head is that now I see the hurt I caused. I Carry a lot of shame.

with a life not sober youll eventually lose everyone and everything you've ever loved even your job and for some people they even lose their freedom or themselves to where there is no turning back or fixing it. I'd ask myself if that's the life that I want or not to have never gotten in the life of addiction in the first place and to let myself know that turning to an addiction because you want to understand why your friend is addicted to it will not help you both save your friend but only bring you to the same hel too. do yourself a favor and never start and if you do then just know that it's never too early or too late to quit your addiction either. life is better and the rewards are greater when your sober than when your dealing with addiction(s). you cant save anyone from addiction either. they have to want to change but you can save yourself before it's too late and if someone you love wants to get sober with you too then thats great and makes it easier to stay sober because you share the same goal and probably went through similar experiences in your addiction and that can help you both grow. live a sober life because you'll never regret it nor will your bodytoo. the best things in life come with living a sober life and taking care of yourself and the ones you love the best that you can. the best of things in life are free and addiction is not one of them.

Dear Past Kenny,
What you THINK YOU'RE GETTING from your using isn't worth what you're ACTUALLY LOSING.

Really getting away from negative people, especially family (judgmental types that are triggering). I would spiral after being around them.
Then with the help of trauma group therapy and meetings, I broke free from old patterns that would alienate me from others-often by self-sabotaging! I was learning coping and communication skills in meetings I never was taught! With these in place, and the unconditional love I felt in the room, I learned to love and protect myself from toxic people while being drawn naturally to supportive people….I highly recommend Al Anon even though you might be in recovery for something else. It’s where I gained the most support and the most “tools”.

Communication, don’t bottle everything up and carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Just sharing with those around you the struggles whether substance abuse or if you know the cause.. it is liberating. Also therapy is not for the weak, it’s for the strong
