What advice would you give to the old you?
The old me wouldn’t have listened to the sober me… that old me was a selfish, narcissistic d!ck.
It can be done. You won’t know if you don’t try!
What finally worked for you?
The bottom came up and hit me, when I realized I drove 2 1/2 hours, armed with my kids in the car and didn’t realize it until I pulled into my driveway. That was the last time I drank.
Well not that I would have listened but here goes…. Hey Miguel ,,really try to look at what your actions are doing to the people that love you! Your kids, your gf, family, friends! Look at how much your actions are hurting them! You say your drinking isn’t hurting anyone, you are only hurting yourself! You are wrong. Think about the consequences the next time you chose to drink. Think about how every negative thing that has ever happened to you in your life involved alcohol!!!… that’s what I would have told myself. And it is what I tell myself today!!!!
Tough question. I suppose the one thing would be to keep working a daily program of recovery ODAAT. It’s a tough because that’s what I was told. Did I listen?
Right on thanks for sharing that. I find it wild how we'll have moment of clarity while in a bottom.
None, it took what it took to get me to the rooms. And the willingness to work the steps
Don’t wait to lose it all. Because you will if you don’t stop.
Nothing. I wouldn’t have listened to myself. I wasn’t ready. There would be absolutely no point.
“There’s more to life than you think there is. It’s not a dream it can and will become real if you work hard for what you truly want. The rest is background noise”
What change then?
I am just so happy for my recovery now my life is not perfect but definitely better. Out of the haze I was in advocating for myself constantly now. My old self could have cared less about anything or anybody. I even lied to my daughter’s face. Never want to go back. The old me would be still drunk.
Advice for the old me? If I’m going back to the me that’s got sober the first time I would say to him, find a meeting to go to. Heal your trauma by sharing it with others.
The 12 steps seem to work pretty Good at keeping me sober. I’d also add in there volunteering at the local food bank helped during Covid.
What helped get me sober was consequences, getting honest with myself and asking for help.
I am 4 months sober. I'm so overwhelmed and just want to kill the pain
I’d tell him to grow the he|l up and stop caring what other people think of you!
Also, twelve years is a long time to spend every night and dime you have at the bar.
The hair wont grow back.
Don’t let her leave…
God, now I’m sad.
That's great you made a change for the better!
Yo 4 months is great. What have you been doing so far? Has something changed recently? I sent a friend request, if you want to talk we can message privately.
Don't walk on eggshells for no one.
