Something I've found helpful during sobriety is knowing what your triggers are that made you want to drink. What were some of your triggers and what do you do now to help keep the alcohol away??

Some of mine were my mental health, boredom, and lack of human interaction (due to self seclusion from others).
I've started AA meetings, reaching out to people to help take up my free time/not be alone so much. Started finding pieces of myself that I was before drinking took over my nights. Like my creative side with painting and writing and trying to be more active. It's still challenging but I'm starting to get back into the zone.
It’s a great exercise! Great work, Sara! The Alcohol Experiment has you write down all of the reasons you drink. Just every single thing you can think of. My list is long! Then, you go through and look at the reality of all of those reasons. It was an eye-opener.
My addiction tries to make me feel not ok. One of the ways it does that is by convincing me that no one likes me. It hits me when I am alone and bored. It starts with suddenly feeling like I sent the wrong message or offended someone (with like the wrong facial expressions or tone of voice). Next thing you know I’ve convinced myself that somehow I’ve ruined or neglected all of my relationships. It’s my trigger. That’s why it is so important for me to have folks I can check in with. I’ve set up people in the program to be my check-ins. I’ve told them that I may send them this text- “Am I OK?”. I told them that I am looking for just a “UR OK” response to tell me that you care and an affirmation of our friendship. Like a “we good”. I do the same for them. It really works and just takes a second.
