Sooo, just picked the kids up from school and everyone

Sooo, just picked the kids up from school and everyone is bouncing off the walls. This is about the time I’d grab a beer so I can take the edge off and not be so quick to get aggravated. I’m trying to stay busy with them but everyone is fighting. Someone is touching someone. Someone is looking at someone else. One of them is breathing too hard and the other doesn’t like it. I know this sounds so stupid but them griping about every single thing is a TRIGGGGGER for me.

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Sorry I'm not laughing. It brings back memories. My girls are probably around your age. You know that beer doesn't work. If you have a friend to call do it. If you can take them all out in the yard if you have one and let them get that energy out. A warm cup of tea actually does work herbal is best for me. You want to chat I'm here.:pray::sunflower:

Thank you! I’ll try that.

Kids can literally drive you to drink. I know from experience!! It took me awhile to adjust. Now I just deal with the madness bc this too shall pass.

Having a sober mom is such a gift. Don’t feel guilty if you need to plop everyone in front of the tv to give yourself a break. Or maybe shift the energy with a simple (but messy activity)- super easy one that any age likes: “Oobleck “. Just add a tiny bit of water to corn starch. Google it.

I get it. Drinking or not they are going to act the same. You can do it

My brother and sister and I acted the same way when we were little kids. My younger brother used a piece of chalk one time to mark on the back seat where everyone could sit and not invade his space. LOL

THEY ARE KIDS. This is quite normal behavior.

And yes, it can be very stressful. Being a sober parent is more of a blessing to those kids than you will ever imagine so give yourself a pat on the back. You're performing the hardest job in the world.

Need to get those kids out in the yard if you have one and let them burn up some energy. I hope you're going to AA meetings and building a support group.

You should have phone numbers of people that have been sober for a long time that you can count on during times of stress.

Go to YouTube and input energy burning activities for your kids. And keep them off the sugar.

I dont have kids, but I manage a small team of engineers at work, and I'm willing to bet it's very similar.....

Hang in there.

Yes they are! Haha

When the triggers become too much, I’ll take 10 min and tell everyone I need a moment. Then I’ll play a singing bowl soundtrack while I lay down in a room with candles lit. Always helps me just get rid of all the negativity. I found talking about it with friends sometimes just added to the anxiety/trigger/negativity. Just relaxing with eyes closed and the bowls on speakers helps release it.

We and our kids are not our best when we first get home hungry tired and maybe a little stressed. A healthy snack is a good idea if supper is not going to be for a while. Bless their hearts and hug them all just because you can.
