Soooo guys last night at the NA NYE party, my sponsor introduced me to someone. We spent the rest of the night together SLOW DANCING (his idea) and then he came to my house tonight for food and movies. I don’t believe it!! He rubbed my feet and made me feel comfortable. He’s got 3 years clean! I didn’t think I’d find someone but this might be it and I’m excited.
I’m sure he’s a nice guy as well you a nice lady. It truly wouldn’t be a bad idea for you to get to know you before getting to know another.. one of the reasons why programs suggest this is.. it’s to easy to ignore our own recovery due to getting distracted in building a romantic relationships. In reality we come to recovery extremely damaged individuals with no clue how to have a relationship with ourselves let alone having romantic relationships with others.
A relationship is to give and receive.. maybe you could ask yourself what you have to offer as far mental morally spiritually and emotionally. My guess is that you are bankrupt of these things. Not having these things is like not having food to eat.. without food to eat one would starve and without these things stated a relationship will starve. when one starts to starve we take action to fill that void (hunger).
My guess is when you had a void to fill you would fill it with chemical wether drink pill or fix.
This is only suggestion, kind of like learning how to ride a bike.. it’s suggested learn how too pedal in order to keep going.
Learn how to pedal in life baby girl and enjoy the ride.
This is only a suggestion for at least the first year.
In life/recovery we can choose to do whatever we want.. what we can’t choose is the consequences. Some of those consequences are positive and some not so positive.
But like my sponsor says to me,
“Your an adult let me know how it works out for ya.”
In other words your not doomed but we’ve seen many people go through unnecessary pain due to such innocent behaviors/actions.. ya never know.. there could be that one
I haven’t seen it though.
Glad you had a great New years eve.. much more beautiful things to come.. let it happen
How wonderful is that
Get ready: unfortunately there are some self righteous people in recovery who will give unsolicited advice and judgement. Ignore them.
I totally agree “advise”
Thats why I believe it’s best to stick with suggestions.. rids the self righteousness.
Someone once suggested to me if I wanna bake a cake follow the directions on the box and you’ll probably get good results🤗
That is great! You deserve it. Enjoy.
Be careful with early relationships. My experience is that I caused more wreckage then good. As the more time I have in sobriety the more I changed mentally, spiritually and my heart changed as well. 13th stepping is real. Not try to rain on your parade but we are all sick people. Our disease is real. He has 3 years, clean, you have 2 months and son change. Enjoy the new you before you get into any romantic relationship. Today I’m making friendships first then when God tells me I’m ready for a romantic relationship God will bring me what I need when I need it. Be safe out there. This is only a suggestion. I’m no expert on relationships. Just from my experience. Have a blessed day filled with love and peace within!
Sounds like you had a great NYE. Remember to take things slow. Be cautious.
Enjoy the happy vibes and stay honest and authentic. Fairly recently I met a wonderful soul from this app. Steady building our story.
Good words Tommy
Glad he has 3 years. My concern is, how much sober time do you have?
Kevin, I stand by everything you just said. Been there, done that. Like most people today, I wasn't listening either back in the early 90's. As a result, I caused a lot of wreckage. This person needs to understand that a relationship at 2 months is not a solution. It's a distraction! And her sponsor should have been watching her back not introducing her to artificial romance.
Well said!
Exactly what I’m talking about. I too didn’t listen…
Everyone’s journey is different. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. That’s all we can do to help. Pray
for her. Pray for those who still struggle in and out of the rooms.
I’m on the be careful side.
Update: it was a false alarm

. We not on the same page. I’m truly focused on my recovery and making sure I go by all the rules of my house. He came over which means men stay in the living room and NO SÊX! Meanwhile, he just wanted to have sêx and I didn’t want to. might be clean for 3 years but I’m only clean from a relapse 85 days today and my focus isn’t solely on sêx and SURELY not focused on breaking rules of the house. Sooo lol it SOUNDED nice but I’ll pass on this one guys
thanks for the advice
The nerve of him worldly men are what I usually call them so glad that you are strong someone right will come your way I'm sure of it you're young and beautiful continue on Mommy
Good for you Alexa!
It's hard to know what I'm talking about right now but as time passes and you get into 1, 2, 3 years of sobriety your perception will definitely change from how it is today.
In the early days I never took the program serious. The only thing I wanted to do was hook up with one woman after another. I was so miserable and I couldn't understand how I got myself into that situation that seemed impossible to get out of.
When I finally got sober I came to realize that my life got to be the way that it did because of decisions that I made that were based on self. I never stopped to think about how my actions would affect other people. It was always about me me me and what I wanted. I never really thought about what was best for everyone else.
That's typical alcoholic thinking when we first get here. All I can do is pass on my experience to new people and it's up to them what they do with it. Sounds like you made the right decision.
And just between you and me I think you might need to look for a different sponsor. The last thing a sponsor should be doing at this stage of the game is introducing you to the opposite s-x.
Just my opinion.
Keep up the good w ork and take it one day at a time.
