Sponsorship?

Sponsorship? What lengths does your sponsor go to guide you in your sobriety?
As a sponsor, I understand that I can’t change anyone, however, I can influence them, guide them and be there for them. I will put in as much time as you will for your sobriety.

What does that mean? Well if we schedule a meeting time and you cancel every week, or don’t call or check in daily and I spend more time checking in with you then my time is being wasted. I feel that I could be could give this time towards someone who is eager to participate in their sobriety.

Example; last night after a mens meeting, one of my sponsees and I sat in my truck from 9:30pm- 1am going over his 5th step. They were willing to put in the work, I’m will to give them the time needed…

I’m not looking for a pat on my back. I’m just simply stating what I feel sponsorship should be. I made a pledge to go to any lengths to get sober. Even if that means getting 3 hours sleep after be of service to another alcoholic. I can say that having 3 hours of after a long night and sober has been one of the weirdest feelings I’ve encountered in sobriety. I only knew of this type of behavior when drinking… I would be miserable right now but I’m actually not! I’m in good spirit. Laughing and joking at work… and focused and determined at the same time… I love being sober…

I think you hit the nail square! You are an ear, a guide. The sponsee it responsible for their recovery, not you. Do what you can but, it is ultimately not up to you.
