A lot of us came through those doors because we were facing big consequences. From martial to professional. From our children to the courts. Caught in the reality of what we might lose, many take that first step. Some have to take it a few more times. Some never get the opportunity to take it. The first step in practical form and in actionable practice is the hardest and easiest. The solution becomes the problem becomes the solution becomes the problem ad infinitum. "Spiritual awakenings" can be simple if you're willing to accept it. Not everyone gets the burning bush or the "voice of God." In fact many of us would say, looking back, we really have no clue how we got to here but just that we felt we didn't have another chance and getting sober had to work because nothing else will.
The first step is the most complex and simple step of them all. The challenge is accepting all the loss, all the destructive, all the abuse, all the sickness, and all the fear as being rooted in one thing. The first drink. Some would say the second you walk through those doors you already have done the first step (*even more some would say you've already done step 1, 2 and 3 simply by walking in the doors)
So what do you do now that you've walked through those doors? Well, read the link.
