Starting again

Ashli, welcome back! One day at a time. AA is a beautiful Program for Alcoholics like you and I. Our new way of life is in the Big Book, working with a sponsor and being of service. Learning to be comfortable being in uncomfortable situations is how I grew in early sobriety.
I went to a meeting last night and one share caught my attention, being just sober for an alcoholic can be even more miserable then not. We sometimes call this “A dry drunk”. We will go through all kinds of new emotions we may have never felt or didn’t like how we felt. It’s these emotions that we can build on and learn to embrace them as they usually don’t last more then a few minutes but sometimes we can sit for days with them. This is a we program. Whatever you’re going through someone in the program has or is going through the same thing. Get numbers, make friends, get a sponsor, do the steps, be of service. It’s a very simple program. I had to go a complete psychic change in order to see who I was and who I am. I’m here if you have any questions about sobriety. I’m glad you made it back. I’ve heard only 2% of us that come to the rooms make it.

Thank you! :slightly_smiling_face: I feel like such a different person when I’m sober. It’s crazy to realize how much I feel emotionally and didn’t even know it. I like how I feel sober (physically) but emotionally I feel like I’m crawling in my skin sometimes. It’s like I miss having an easy escape when things are uncomfortable. I’ve learned that’s the time I need to get to a meeting and/or talk to someone.

Welcome Ashli! I totally understand and agree. I say that the emotional part of sobriety gets less frequent the more days we stack up. Also if we haven’t cleaned our side of the street those emotions turn into resentments and resentments turn into a drink.
I’m glad you have noticed the difference in emotions and when they get overwhelming you go to a meeting. I’ve been getting phones numbers and talking with other alcoholics when I can’t get to a meeting. We remember this is a we program. So far not one alcoholic has told me to not call them. I’m fact they actually encourage it. And heck they even call me.
