Starting Over… Again

I binged alcohol on Thursday and Friday of last week and it’s been tough reminding myself that I do not have control over my drinking.

I am going to consult my doctor for some type of medication to help me maintain long-term sobriety. Has anyone explored that path? There are several medications that help with alcohol use disorder.

I feel like this is the best next step to remove the “incentive” my brain creates while drinking.

We’ve all been there girl :heart:I’ve been on naltrexone for a while. I feel like it’s efficacy has dropped a bit but I’m still putting g a good faith effort in it! Ask a doctor about it…Bupropion literally made feel sick if I even smelled a cigarette so it made it easier quit! From my experience the Naltrexone doesn’t have that nauseating effect- sometimes I wish something did! Hang in there.

Thank you so much!

Naltrexone seemed to work a miracle on me. If I get an urge, it is way easier to dismiss it.
Good luck! You got this!

Thank you for sharing! I’ll absolutely share my experience, too! I’m hoping for success with whatever medication I move forward with. :crossed_fingers:t4:

Try AA?

“If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer.”

These two sentences out of the big book hit me hard. Chapter 4 “We Agnostics”

Hey Ciara I haven't had any personal use for it but the drug Antabuse is very effective I understand! If you take even a sip of alcohol you will get violently Ill! Lesser of two evils! Also if you ever want to talk recovery text me or call me ANYTIME 24/7 a big part of my service work is attempting to help other alcoholics DJ 734 787 6591 only if you are comfortable with it okay

I've been on Naltrexone for a year and a half and Dr has been weaning me off for several months now. It really did the job initially but agree with my DR that I really think I can go without now.

I’ve tried all of the mentioned above, but have stuck with Acamprosate (or Campral) with pretty good success to help cravings.
It’s just my own thoughts that tend to get me in trouble, meditation and sober friends really helps me!

A new one I haven't seen on here is Ozempic (semaglutide). It's a big weight loss /appetite suppressant med but it has shown promising efficacy with addiction/ alcoholism. It essentially removes the "appetite" in the addiction in a similar neuropathway. I have not had the opportunity to use though. Anabuse just made me sick. Just FYI......good luck!

Thank you for your vulnerability and sharing this!

Thank you! I’m taking Mounjaro which is very similar to Ozempic to help accelerate my weight loss. It does help with the cravings, too.
