Starting Suboxone

My partner and I are trying to start Suboxone. We’ve gone 16 hours without using and starting to feel some withdrawals. So we would start Suboxone then go into precipitated withdrawals. Does anyone have any tips on starting Suboxone?

Wait 24 hours at least and then take suboxone every 8 hours. And yes if you take it too soon you will cause yourself to go into terrible withdrawals. also when you are on suboxone do NOT use until you have stopped taking it for at least 24 hours or again you will start withdrawing. Suboxone binds to your opiate receptors and when you try and take an opioid other than suboxone it blocks it out and causes withdrawal. Stay safe !! Stay strong. I hope you have an easy quick recovery. There is sunshine in your future.

I went 3 days without using and tried Suboxone and still went through the precipitated withdrawals. I think that the fentanyl I’ve been using has been staying in my system for a longer period of time :disappointed:

Im sorry you had to go thru that. Withdrawing is the complete worse. I highly suggest going to detox where nurses are monitoring you and making sure you nothing happens. Also they will make sure your eating food too( which rlly helped me cos i have trouble eating when im detoxing, just that little food helps a ton) I hope you have a quick detox, it’s just the beginning But i know it gets better ! Stay strong :muscle:

How long is a detox program? Do they let you out for work? It’s been rough having to work full time through this and not having anyone to talk to or ask for help. This app has been my main source of help right now. I need to get my mind right again and keep going. Make it to 5 days and 6,7,8. I’m so happy you have gotten sober and that you’re helping others find things to help them get sober. That’s what I would like to do once I’m sober for good

The detox center I went to we weren’t even aloud our phones and didn’t have access to internet while in there. We did have land like phones so you would need to remember someone’s number to call out lol and there was a tv in the day time room. I know some places allow phones but you would probably have to take a week off from work. At least the place I was at you could leave whenever you wanted BUT it takes like 2-3 days for the doctor and insurance and whatever else to process. So if you want to get out on friday tell them on monday or tuesday. Also they make a plan for you the day you come in so you have an idea of when you can leave. You can stay in your room the whole time if you want or they had group therapy, art time, gym time and even if you didn’t want to go down to the cafeteria to eat a nurse would bring back food for you. There was snacks and juice every 3 hours. I can only speak on my experience every place is slightly different.

Hello Skyler: When I started suboxone way back when, I waited until I got sick from H withdrawals (about 24 hours) then started taking subs. It was certainly unpleasant and very difficult. I was completely under a doctor's supervion. Are you?

When I went to treatment they made me wait 5 days because I was using fentanyl and it takes longer to clear your system. And when you do start subs try a very low dose like 2mg and see if it takes the edge off. Be patient. I did a 5 day taper but to be honest the withdrawals weren't as bad/intense off the subs but it did last a lot longer and milder than coming off of other stuff. I had anxiety and emotional swings for a month. Try to get into a detox center man, it was the best thing I've ever done and if they offer a residential program after I'd do that too. I've been on and off for 17 years, been to prison twice, arrested more than I can count, lost everything then got it back just to lose it all again, over and over. I'm almost 14 months sober now, married and have a beautiful daughter. If I can do it you can do it man!

That sounds great actually! I need to look into that and see if something is available near me. The last time I was in the hospital they had done something similar. Except they didn’t monitor my eating. I’m so glad you’re still here and able to help others

No I am not. I do have a doctor I talk to about this and see every week or so. She also put me on gabapentin to help with anxiety. It kind of helps but I’m also on Lexapro and Wellbutrin. I have the ability to message her and have zoom appointments from home

OK well that's great. It sounds like the doctor has really got you covered. May I please ask what the problem is?
