staying sober is difficult for me because all the ppl I love struggle w/ alcoholism and giving alcohol up I would also mean giving them up.
If you love them it would be the best thing for them. You could be a power of example.
I can see how difficult this is. In the end getting and staying sober is a choice. Actually it’s a lot of choices. There’s also a slogan from long ago that says you need to change people, places, and things. This is a tough road, but when you’ve been beaten down by this disease enough, you become more willing to make these changes. On the bright side, perhaps you can look at this as a temporary (one day at a time) separation. Perhaps you can look at this as an opportunity to be the first to get sober. Perhaps you will lead the way for others to get sober. We are glad you are here. Keep posting and sharing. Keep asking questions.
Hi Andrea. There’s a saying I heard that’s about association. It basically states that if you are around people doing something, you’re probably going to be the next one doing it.
“if you’re around 5 people drinking you’ll probably be the 6th”
Now is that 100% true? Of course not. But it makes our recovery more arduous than it needs to be.
As well as sometimes once we clean up our act, we see the ones who truly care for us. We get to sort out the drinking buddies from our friends.
