Still waking up feeling hung over

I'm almost 16 weeks sober and waking up feeling like I did while I was drinking. I don't have an urge to drink but I also don't have much motivation for anything else. I know my sleep is off and I have vivid dreams both of drinking and not. This is what drinking so long does to your brain. Even without the alcohol the effects linger much longer.

All of this is normal sweetheart. Using dreams have recently jumped on me 3 1/2 years into recovery and I felt so guilty about it at first I kept it to myself. Until it kept happening and I felt as if id used so I called my drug court officer and called it out loud!!! She reassured me as I'm trying to do for you. At 16 weeks your body is still recovering. Use this time to heal your mind. Reading and listening to everything uplifting and edifying that you can find. Even when you're sleeping.

Thank you so much. I know everyone's recovery is different but to know that at all stages some things will be "normal" for me gives me real perspective on the damage that alcohol causes and THAT is the motivation you just gave me . Just what I needed. Probably need to up my vitamin intake to get over some of that yuck feeling in the mornings.

Angel, this too shall pass. Stay the course, stay sober and heal.
Are you working on the 12 steps with a sponsor yet?
Iā€™m here if you want to talk

Not yet. I'm doing IOP right now and it's working but do want to look into doing the 12 steps. I have 3 more weeks of group and then I will have time to focus on the 12 steps. Saving this.

Take care of anything that's got you uncomfortable, like pain/boredom/loneliness. Stay hydrated and you might not wake up so groggy.
