Struggling again with the question why not? I know

If we didn't have a broken forgotter we might not have a problem. I thought about it tonight, sunny outside, reward for job well done at work until I :flushed: realized that I would be miserable, starting over, depressed, self esteem in the trash....anxiety, shakes, derailed emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. So, I put on a movie, ordered Mexican and am relaxing. :grinning: Tomorrow is a new day for us both.

Why not? Because the life I’ve built is too good, and too valuable to throw away on that junk. Because the eyes of all my people still stuck in the life are watching me. I have to be an example of success. Because I don’t want to die.

Why not? I had a friend once tell me to let everyone hear you roar. I have built this life that has been extremely hard and difficult to build since I’ve been sober. I’ve worked too hard to get where I am at to just throw it away and have to start over again. I am strong, resilient and will always continue to work on myself and this life I’ve built since I’ve quit drinking nearly three years ago. Nothing will ever make me go back to those days of drinking heavily and destroying everything. Anyone who might still be struggling, you can do it. Take it one day at a time and go from there. Sometimes it’s one second at a time and that’s ok. Nothing wrong with that. Just keep going!

Because your worth it , that’s why not .

My best tool is to play the tape! If I drink tonight I know I’ll finish it off first thing in the morning and be drunk all day tomorrow and the vicious cycle will have begun. I’ll start isolating out of shame, I’ll cut off my sober connections, my anxiety will take control and life will become unmanageable. Hang in there sis and play that tape

My addiction tells me all kinds of things… stuff like ā€œWouldn’t it be nice to kick back?ā€œ Or ā€œI really love the flavorā€ but conveniently forgets about sleeping in the bathroom so that I can be near the toilet when I inevitably start puking again, waking to injuries, waking up to empty bank accounts, finding out that I had hurt people I love and have no memory of it. My addiction wants to kill me but will settle for making me miserable— and it’s really good at what it does.
I have to be ready for its lies.
I’m so grateful to have tools in my tool belt (steps, sponsor, meetings, gratitude lists, meditation, prayer, phone numbers of fellows, etc.)
I made it through another day and tomorrow’s a new day.
I gotta stay vigilant.

I have already started reading the book. Thank you for the great idea.

Wow, thank you Charlie I am currently on Sober Powered. It is soooo good!

I do not believe in a program but a comprehensive strategy. That encompasses a AA type or similar program, getting educated on substance abuseby reading and any other info source. All addictions manifest in the same manner, prayer and guidance from God. And the will to succeed I do not use AA term higher power I believe in Jesus Christ as my God
It doesn't get better

That may also include professional therapy. I went to group out patient therapy. It helped me figure out and come to terms with my inner conflicts

I've been in 18 years, there's a lot of veterans in my group, and most have amazing, epic, sad, and inspiring stories. I suggest go again. Bring a friend if your uncomfortable, because you'll never know what a veteran will say lol.
