Struggling Due to Unemployment

Today has been extra hard. I got another rejection email, after a seemingly promising interview. I don’t do well with too much idle time. Currently, I have no car, so I’m kind of stuck when it comes to doing the things that would normally help (go to the gym, hike, sit in a coffee shop and work on my courses etc)

Reading, walks, job hunting, and course work have been my main distractions but it is lonely.

Do you live near any meetings so you can meet new people? Or would you consider using Meetup for sober groups?

I used meet up to find sober groups but haven’t had much luck unfortunately.

Don't give up.

So ya have friends to take you places? Lack of money is hard so in exchange you can offer to help out such as house cleaning or babysitting or small chores Plus it will keep you busy!!! I watch movies related to alcohol 28 Days w Sandra Bullock etc Just some ideas :relaxed:

As long as you stay sober it will all work out.
If you don’t it won’t.

Ah, that sucks.

Maybe look at different groups that your addiction wouldn't typically be associated with / go well with? From what I've checked out, hiking groups, swimming groups, some sight seeing groups, tend to have no place for things like alcohol and drugs, so they might be a good place to meet new people.

I forgot to ask if you have anything like SMART Recovery wherever you live. Significantly less preachy than most other groups.

Ema, I am in the same exact position. My interview went great. However, they must have done a background check.
No transportation because of my revoked license. And I am extremely lonely.
That being said, you are not alone.
Don't get discouraged. We have to keep plugging along and find another interview.

I feel you. It's tough. Had a couple of big let downs in that front. Been making myself exercise and try to stay positive. It will come if you put in the work. Take breaks through exercise to clear your head.

I don’t really know enough people for that yet, but I have a couple interviews tomorrow so I’m hoping one or both of those will work out!

It’s a hard situation! I’m sorry you’re going through it as well. Hopefully we’ll get our breakthrough soon.

I’m not sure! I’m still very new here but I’ll definitely look into it. I did find one hiking group that looked like fun, and thankfully I’m started to get a hang of the bus system so I’ll be more mobile soon.

Ema, I totally understand how you feel but remember you're worth the hire, it just was not the right place. Keep going and keep your head up!
This too shall pass😊

Ema, I’m not sure how I missed this post! Hope today goes good! Just remember that if you don’t apply cause you feel under qualified there is no chance of getting that job, so keep it up and if they don’t want you it isn’t not worth giving them another thought. You are a great person and you are committed to being the best version of you! Don’t give up on you ever and the right job will come!
