Struggling with my sudden change in family dynamics. My husband and I are recently separated, I hate it, but it’s what he wants for now so there’s nothing I can do. He has the kids tonight and tomorrow and I hate being away from them. I can’t drive so there’s nowhere I can go just to take my mind off things. Contemplating getting another part time job to keep me busy on Saturdays, bc I know I’m going to struggle with loneliness on that day every week. Perhaps I have been too co-dependent in my marriage.
It’s definitely hard but when I became sober getting divorced was a gift
Sorry to hear about your situation with the family. Keeping busy will certainly help. Just be sure to make some time for your recovery. Try not to run away from your reality by jumping head first into something else. I don’t know if you’re involved with a recovery program, but now would be a great opportunity to give more time to one. It’s scary to face reality, but I bet you will find peace and happiness on the other side
Im a change man my wife did not know me anymore so a divorce was the only way to go if wanted my serenity. God is Good
I’m sorry that you’re struggling, this sounds like a lot to deal with. Keeping busy is great but it’s also super important that you have time for self-reflection and working through your problems. When I can’t stop thinking about a problem I like to write about it because it helps me work through it . And message me if you wanna talk!
I went through a very similar situation. My anxiety was through the roof and if I got any sleep at all it was a miracle. I couldn’t sit still and I couldn’t turn off my brain. My therapist was a lifesaver. I started doing yoga and mastering meditation became a mission. There was no quick fix. I had to feel everything!!! For the first time in my life I couldn’t go around something. I had to go through it!!! I know how feel and I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. But if you focus on yourself and the things you can control and doing the next right thing then everything else will take care of itself!! Keep your head up!! Things will get better!!!
I'm in a similar situation. If you need someone to talk to send me a message. I believe talking out a problem is part of the cure.
Dear Sarah
Emotional trauma is something to be taken very seriously and needs to be recognized and treated.
According to science there are different levels of emotional trauma and the top three are as follows.
- Loss of a loved one
- Divorce
- Loss of employment
If you study Diagnostic Statistics Manual Five you will find that alcoholism and drug addiction have been found to be Alcohol Use Disorder and Drug Use Disorder.
My hypothesis is Drug or Alcohol Disorders are preceded by emotional trauma that causes people to self medicate and going through a separation involving family can create emotional and psychological traumas.
In my opinion it is very important to use a holistic cure like eating regularly, following a schedule and and if you need someone to talk to look towards the sky and imagine positive things.
How many times, as a child, have you laid on your back and seen things in the clouds?
There are many ways to help you through emotional setbacks but alcohol, drugs, believing in negative feedback resulting in negative behavior will make it worse.
I have looked into clouds used my child like imagination and saw myself flying doing loop the loops.
No, I am not crazy just trying' to help.
Peace, Goodwill and God'sSpeed
Idle time is the worst.
It’s so hard. My kids are going to their dads today. Always a downer. I would not say that that’s an urge per se, but it feels weird, especially when everyone is prepping for the Holiday. I guess I am grateful for no more family drama. Send me a friend request we can help each other . Cooking helps me.
Similar situation I went through 6 years ago. Lots of great tips on here. Similar to Eric I couldn’t sleep or eat and anxiety through the roof. I had to reinvent myself with my 50% free time because my identity was father and husband giving everything there. I reinvented myself and discovered boxing as a sport. I took this only class for one month and it was a life saver - Love Yourself 30 Day Inner Bonding with Dr. Margaret Paul. My kids are now middle teenagers and some of those same feelings are coming back because now on my time they want to do their own thing and be with friends. Message if you want to chat.
