Struggling with self worth

It makes socializing difficult because I go into meeting people feeling like I’m a POS that they wouldn’t want to get to know anyway.

This is normal. It will pass. Remember that we need to stay out of self pity by helping others and being of service. Expecting nothing in return.
It’s going to get better.

This is completely normal , lies we've told ourselves to justify why we drink or use unfortunately but you're appreciated and valued in sobriety! Others will offer help and advice you're doing great :+1:

Hi Shane. I'm sorry to hear about your hardships. I can relate. I imagine most of us can. 3yrs ago I was deemed 100% service connected disabled and made the tough decision to stop working full-time. Since I have struggled with self worth. What has been most helpful to me is helping others. Volunteering. Being an ear for my fellow addict. When we do these things we get outside of ourselves and ot increases our self worth.

I am 44y/o and live with my folks. I worked as an engineer in the past so it's a massive change. I struggled to find my value in relationships and have remained single for the past 4 yrs as a result. Recently I met a girl through some neighbors that I saw needed a hand. Point is, this is what helps me... helping others. The big book talks alot about it as well.

The others have told you some really good stuff. Alcoholism and addiction is a problem common to all of us. We have symptoms in common. And we have a COMMON SOLUTION.

Your feelings are normal at your stage - and remember, although feelings may be real, they are NOT reality. Remember that when your diseased mind is trying to convince you everyone thinks you’re a POS - that is a lie!

Continue going to meetings. Get a sponsor and begin working the program of recovery, the sooner the better!

We don’t think our way into acting correctly - instead, we act our way into thinking correctly. God bless!:pray:

Positive affirmations helped me and a gratitude list everyday :pray:t2:

Self worth can sure be tough. Depending on your beliefs you could look to what your higher power says your worth instead of how you're thinking right now. Also, think of all the ways you can bless others, and increase that capacity. That could help steer you into a positive place. Your worth is immeasurable, no matter how you feel.
