Sugar Addict

Ever since I stopped drinking, I crave sweets. For you old timers, will my cravings stop eventually?

My DOC wasn’t alcohol but I’m eating a handful of mm’s as I’m reading this so I want to know as well

Hi Chuck,

Yes, craving sugar is normal. Our brains crave the dopamine "Rush" that alcohol provided. Our blood sugar also is affected when we remove alcohol from our body. I'll be 5 years sober in a few weeks and I still crave sugar. Not like I used to but I do get my cookies, cakes and soda in, especially during down time.

Oh no! Well, it’s better than drinking.

I ate so much sugary food it made me sick enough to see a doctor... 3 years in i have a focus on eating organic whole foods and using herbs as medicine so yes it passed for me. Old timers lol

Alcohol wasn’t my first choice but when I was detoxing from drugs, yes the sugar cravings were so bad, I could barely eat anything else. Once I started getting to a point of getting healthier it’s gone down. Look into Vitadone if you’re having trouble. It also helped me when I first got detoxed. Good luck

Yes
I am eating cookies like crazy
But I don’t care
I’m not drinking and after decades of abusing my body
So if I’m now addicted to sweets I’ll take it
I don’t want to drink anymore and what helps that I’m good with

Same here. I rather deal with cavities :tooth: than dealing with alcohol withdrawals. Lol

My sugar cravings took 8 months to go away. Wonderful job on your sobriety!

Well, I have two more months to go. I just had an apple fritter. Lol :joy:

I been sober for a while and like my sugar. Alcohol is just fermented sugar

You just have to control how much you feed the desire

Id say that's a pretty good trade

Sugar is the root of so many issues. Once removed, we crave.
