Uhh... yes! I have been buying myself crumbl cookies almost every other week... :grimacing: but justify it bc there's new flavors weekly and I don't want to miss out

Same here, I never craved sweets until quitting drinking. I keep bananas and apples around to grab instead of a sugar treat.

I’ve become a total sugar fiend :sob:

Yes indeed! I never liked sweets, but since I’ve stopped drinking it’s ice cream every other day lol. I read it’s one of the things we experience since liquor has a high sugar content.

I never really crave sugar or sweets but I am constantly hungry and always have to have diet soda

Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bars. I break off two chunks per day.

It’s normal, your body is trying to replace the sugar from the alcohol. It’s the pits. If you can get off for a week that really helps the processed sugar get out of your body.

Yes yes yes and I’ve gained 30 unwanted lbs. I talked to my doctor about my concern and she said “ one problem at a time” let’s not worry about that right now, let’s focus on your sobriety, and we will worry about that later” so, I just try to keep it in mind but I still like something sweet often. I was at the grocery store and saw something I really wanted but I was able to talk myself out of it. I love drumstick ice cream cones so my therapist suggested I dont keep them or sweets in the house and just stop to buy one when I crave one on occasion.

It is soooo hard! Reese’s are my thing, but it’s better than drinking I guess?

I give in. I'd rather be sober and a Lil chubby than emaciated and intoxicated

Yes. It’s perfect normal and expected. The big book of Alcoholics Anonymous has a solution. “keep sweets on hand for cravings”

I like hard candies that take a while to dissolve. I can chuck them in my bag or pocket wherever I go and it’s just super convenient. I also don’t have to stop what I’m doing to make something (which can be fun though, I recommend), or buy something. And they’re generally pretty cheap, but there’s usually a great selection at dollar stores.

I definitely do not suggest avoiding giving into your cravings or feeling guilty about them. And drinking messes with your blood sugar, doesn’t it? I don’t know the science of this at all, this is just a guess, but the cravings are probably a result of that. They’ll go away with time, and it’s probably a good idea to listen to them.

Eat fruit or smoke a cigarette or vape, helps me alot

Absolutely. I'm devouring way too much ice cream.

I didnt even try fighting it, you're already giving up alcohol, dont make it worse. It wont last forever, plus working out helps me crave healthier food. Or just indulge a bit, whatever you gotta do.

Raisins are the best. Sweet, and good for you.

Still working on it myself. I'm trying to train myself to go for natural sugars like in peaches or raspberries instead of cake or candy.
