Sunburnt and sober!

Sunburnt and sober!!! Yesterday I got a text from an old friend… They are still friends with my ex-husband and my kids are best friends with their kids but I haven’t seen them in a few years due to my divorce and my addiction… She has been texting me for a while now she knows all about my sobriety! She texted me to let me know that they were having a barbecue and swim party today to end the summer and wanted to invite me and that my ex-husband and kids would be there… She did warn me that the adults would be drinking so if it is a trigger she understood I decided to go because I wanted to spend the day with my kids! Also other people drinking does not trigger me my emotions TrIgger me LOL I was nervous on the way there more because I hadn’t seen a lot of the people in a while I also do recall the last time I saw most of them and it wasn’t pretty on my part. It definitely was weird I feel like their was a giant elephant in the room but I had fun! I never craved or was triggered I honestly loved being sober in that situation I had so much fun with my kids and they got to see me sober in a situation they are used to where the adults are drinking! Now I am sunburnt and exhausted but very happy I went

Thanks for sharing that. Big props to you for “sacking” up and going. Based off of what you said I’m sure it wasn’t easy to do and I can only imagine the anxiety and uneasy feelings as you made your way there and then pulled up but you did it AND had the best time not just with your kids but while being and staying sober!! You’re a rockstar tonight so pat yourself on the back because you deserve it :clap:Keep at it you’re doing great Jillian:metal:t2:

This is excellent. Huge congratulations. I remember when I wasn’t in my kids life because of being fucked up and then newly sober. I got back and looks like you are getting there too!!

Jillian! Woohoo! Congrats on putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation and managing your emotional sobriety and your physical sobriety! That’s a huge milestone! I’m super happy to have read this! Thank you for sharing that everything is possible when we have a positive mindset and have no expectations of what’s going to happen until they happen. Beautiful story!
Someday I’ll be at that point with my best friend and his wife and my ex wife. But for now I’m content with not being invited.

Congrats Jillian. This is awesome in so many ways. You stayed sober, your friend is supportive of your sober lifestyle, and you spent time with your kids sober. Keep up the great work.
