Super stressed out lately with work. I just hit 8

Super stressed out lately with work. I just hit 8 months sober and I’m really leaning towards having a drink. :sob:

I hear you, but it's just not worth it. What's got you stressed about work?

To close to handfuls filled with f it. Keep sharing!

It’s not worth it. So much harder to get sober than stay sober. Living the early stages. Don’t pick up. You got this!

Play the tape all the way through. You have a drink… then what? You may make it a day, or a week, but sooner of later the floor will drop out. Grab some ice cream, a root beer, hel! Go grab a cake and be thankful you didn’t pick up. You got this.

Listen I’ve felt the same way for the last week. I’m coming up on 8 months myself. My birthday is Monday and I’ve been having panic attacks lately which I haven’t had since being sober. And I think it’s because I’m nervous about my birthday. This would be the first birthday in 7 years I would be sober. I’m nervous because I was stressed out about court and my legal issues and just wanted to have a drink. But I’ve been hitting meetings and talking about it. It has helped me a lot. Just by you writing this post you are helping yourself. Hopefully I can find something fun to do on Monday that doesn’t involve using. I was thinking about going to an early meeting then going to the stranger things experience in Manhattan. Think of something fun to do to take your mind off of drinking and you’ll forget all about it

I know it’s not worth it. The stress is getting the best of me. I recently got a new position and more work at a faster pace. I just feel the work piling up and I’m trying to get it all done within the deadline and it has me exhausted. I hope the transition comes sooner then later. I need to be gentle and nice to myself. I haven’t been able to take lunches or breaks and it’s hard to manage time. I reached out on here and a couple of CA friends and I found that it helped me. I also got myself outside for a nice walk which I love nature. I feel like sometimes when I’m depressed or stressed I find myself stuck I’m learning I have to push myself in order to feel better.

Thank you. I feel like sharing on here and reaching out to my sober friends really helps in times like these.

You’re right it’s hard to get sober and staying sober is hard too but I reached out and got outside in nature after work and felt somewhat better. I also had a couple good cries today. I didn’t pick up. Onwards and upwards.

I played it over and over and it didn’t end well. I know it’s not worth it. The stress got the best of me. It’s hard to learn when you need to take a break even if it’s to focus on breathing. I forced my stressed depressed self out of the door and went for a long walk by the river. Nature always heals me it’s just the fighting to get there part. I feel unmotivated lately. Ever since I’ve got sober the sugar cravings are higher then they normally are and let me tell you I have a sweet tooth lol needless to say I’ve gain some weight and it’s starting to play a big toll on my mental and physical health.

Congratulations! 8 months is a big milestone! Happy early Birthday! It’s normal to feel anxious about your birthday but I think you have a good head on your shoulder’s and a good plan on hitting a meeting and maybe grabbing coffee or something with someone after if that’s not your vibe do something you enjoy doing. Treat yourself to your favorite place to eat. I know I love to be out in nature whenever you get the chance so maybe do something outdoors? I’ve been telling myself I need to hit a meeting but been pushing g it to the back burner and keep giving myself excuses in why not to go I need to get to one asap.

How'd that work out for ya before Sis? I've shared this over and over...take a step back to memory lane! Remember how awesome that was?? Yeah...not awesome! Nice work talking about it! You can do this!!!

I had the same thing happen to me today because of stress and just life in general. I literally walked almost into the liquor store, walked away and probably did that about 5 times. Then called my friend and just talked to her about it and she said no, I will come pick you up and lets go to lunch. After I had lunch and talked to her about what happened really helped. It’s really huge if you have a sponsor or even just a good friend you can always call. Wish you the best!

Thank you. Yea ima grab some coffee afterwards and go out to eat later. And trust me I’ve pushed meetings away for a while myself. But when I stopped pushing them away things got better

I’m glad you didn’t pick up and reached out. That’s the one thing I’ve found to help me out a lot as well. It may be hard sometimes to overcome the fear of being judged or whatever but after talking it out it seems to do wonders. I have my mom or some people I’ve meet through CA that have helped me out a lot by just picking up the phone and calling them. Wish you the best as well friend. :relieved:

Thank you everyone for the kind words and encouragement moving forward. Umm the stress has been mainly finding out that my dad has cancer and they also found a couple tumors, and my mom just had a knee replacement, so I’ve been helping them out all the time. Ughhh I thought I broke up with what I thought was my ex girlfriend a month ago, but till this day she still thinks and talks to me like we’re boyfriend/girlfriend. She doesn’t anymore (as far as I know use drugs, but before I met her I know she did heavily.). I wasn’t a user as far as drugs, just alcohol got the best of me. Ruined my baseball career, well and the fact I got run over by a bus (literally). Don’t trip, my whole body is fully intact ha. But I was supposed to get drafted to the Oakland A’s, but who wants to invest in a player that just got run over by a bus lol. I’ve always been the one that takes care of my friends and loved ones, but this time with my so-called ex I decided for once I’m going to focus on me for once to better myself and just by doing that I feel like in the end it will better people around me. So the next person I date, I would love to find someone sober like I’m trying to be, but who knows. Most importantly, I have a son who will be 11 in August and I love him more than anything in the world. So I can’t let him down. Brother, my Birthday is on July 12th and I thought about that too, drinking and what not, but I just plan on having something mellow, like a BBQ on the beach if anything. Anyway, I have plenty more to share, hence the reason I’m currently writing a book ha. But I’m so glad that I found this site, you guys are all awesome, and thank you very much to responding to what I had to say. I know I’m new here, but if anyone ever needs to talk, hit me up. Im a good listener and I’ve done a few stand up comedy acts, so maybe I can at least make you laugh. Thanks again for listening/responding to me and welcoming me into this amazing group. Talk to you all soon! Cheers! In a sober way!

Renee, exercise, pick up the phone and call a sober friend, go to a pet shop and look at puppies! That is what I used to do when I was depressed. It is not worth it. You have too much hard earned time under your belt!!
