My day is coming for this talk and i’m terrified to tell my 11 yr old son the ONE thing I have never shared with him. My son and I are VERY CLOSE, it’s always been just HIM AND MOM. We have many talks and I make sure he can always be open and honest with me, no matter what. I want to help guide him and teach him about things he is going through in life. (I never had that growing up) The only thing he doesn’t know is that i’m an addict. He knows about depression. I’m scared of how he will view me but I HAVE TO TELL HIM REGARDLESS. Anyone go through this and maybe have suggestions or advice. I am writing things down and making sure this talk is
understandable and all the main components are discussed properly. LOVE ALL YOU! ALL THE
and support you show me helps me EVERYDAY and I can’t thank u enough.
I will say, it is never too early to teach about addiction. The hardest part is being open about your flaws. You can do it, and I'm sure he will love you just the same and be proud of you for being honest.
This was one of my fears as well. Telling my girls (14,13,11) I had a problem when I did, the only thing they were surprised by was that I was not going to drink “ like… ever again???” I was just honest and told them I would answer any questions they had. Now they know, and it is a non starter. When I was drinking they would never ask me to go places, or do things for them. Now… I am always running with them, and believe me they notice. Honesty. Just honesty.
I had the “addiction” talk with him. Specifics were not mentioned but it’s important for me as a mother to not hide my faults and talk through them. His age is when it all started for me so knowing that… I can teach him what comes with those things and he will remember and learn from it. He won’t be ignorant to the subject or his environment around him.
AMEN TO THAT!!!!! Love the honesty. VERY VERY IMPORTANT AS PARENTS. The older generations were too ashamed to talk about them. As we know… we didn’t benefit from that WHATSOEVER
