Get into a recovery program. Keep sharing. Lots of different ones to choose from. Surround yourself with others like you.

It is different for all of us. Some days you are the statues some days you are the pidgin. I agree about the program that K. Suggested. Without the fellowship I wouldn’t be where I am today. I hope you are feel better soon.

I hear you, I’ve been struggling too. I will tell you some days have been better than others. Keep your head up, keep going to meetings, and know you aren’t alone :purple_heart:

Hang in there. You’re not alone. There’s literally millions of us. We all feel it too…in our own ways. Don’t give up!

It's always going to be up and down. But I will say it gets way easier to ride the waves :ocean:. And you will eventually find your coping mechanisms that make it not as bad. When you feel that way, do whatever you know (not feel) that you love the most. Feelings lie to us don't forget. So even if you feel cruddy, do what you know you love and your feelings will follow. Hope this helps :sparkling_heart:

Unfortunately just not using or drinking on its own won’t solve all of life’s problems and make everything in life perfect, but it does make it possible for your to build a life that is better than anything you had in active addiction. There’s a reason the term “dry drunk” exists. Quitting is only the first step. Being able to get more out of therapy, be more consistent in all your affairs, and get your life balanced without the influence of poisonous substances clouding your mind and body can do wonders, but it’s a lot of work and it takes just as much willingness as getting clean does. It’s worth it though. You got this.

Hi Lisa, depression is the withdrawals from alcohol. That can take a while, it will go up and down but should get less and less. Loneliness, you just have to get out there. Meetings help, friends who accept you not drinking. Any club you like.
To understand what is going on in you you might read Alcohol Explained by William Porter. You can read the first few chapters on line or look for Gillian Tietz's website and podcast Sober Powered very informative. Alcohol really does a nasty number on your brain.

Sorry you're experiencing that. It's probably the phenomenon medically called post-withdrawal anhedonia. It's usually about a year of things generally sucking. I've got 19 months clean and sober and it's so much better now. The first week was the worse obviously with withdrawal and everything, I had to do it in an institution. The first 6 months were the worst, I needed family to help me just go through the motions of the day. At about one year my psychiatrist was able to better determine what medication I needed and that made a huge difference.

Same!

I had to learn how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. These are the feelings that we used alcohol to mask, and now we have to feel them and it’s… uncomfortable. But don’t give in to them. They’re just feelings and they will pass. I can guarantee you 10000% taking a drink isn’t going to make it better in the long run. Never forget that.

Stay strong Lisa! Alcohol isn’t going to make that any better! :black_heart::muscle:t3:
