I've been able to become more non-conforming in my sobriety and value doing things I find fulfillling vs feeling obigated to make others happy. I traditionally don't see family for Thanksgiving because they live across the country (we'll enjoy Christmas together which I'm super excited for). In the past I've spent the holiday with friends and their families but this year decided to spend the day doing what I want to do. I'm not a big turkey fan and while spending time with friends is nice, I've had so much social interaction lately due to work obligations, I feel I need some me time to decompress, slow down, and enjoy some solitude. So on Thursday I'm taking a solo day trip to big sur to enjoy some of my favorite hiking spots, be on my own schedule and just see where the day takes me. I can't wait! Sobriety has taught me that it's okay to go against the norm and put my own needs first. And I'm thankful for that!
