The devil is back

My heel hurts and has been hurting for months as if there is not enough cushion or fat to prevent the bone from touching the skin. The devil tries to tell me, "well, you're already hurting, might as well drink." I stopped drinking because of incredible foot pain in all places. Bow it's a lingering whisper. What do you do when you hear that voice?

Thanks

It occurred to me last night that since I was alone and bored that I should go to the local bar. Took me about 5 minutes to shake off the idea. You are not alone!

I “ played the tape back “ seeing that 1 drink would take me back in trouble, as it always has.

True. My step father would always say that.

Tell the whisper to shut up…. I’m the captain of this ship!

Nat, I’m really glad you said this out loud. That voice loves to show up when we’re already uncomfortable. Pain is hard enough.. we don’t need to add regret to it.

When I hear that whisper, I try to change my state immediately. Even something small.. a short walk, cleaning one drawer, calling someone safe, journaling for 5 minutes, reading a good book, or taking a long shower and really leaning into extra self-care. Productive distraction isn’t avoidance… it’s protection.

And I remind myself.. using never actually fixes the pain. It just delays it and multiplies it.

You stopped for a reason. That reason still matters. Keep going. :purple_heart:
