That’s what it feels like still at times. The loss of a loved one or a relationship. It was such a big part of my life for so long that there’s still sense of loss.
I’m SO GLAD to be 2+ years sober but I still miss the comfort it gave.
If you would have told me a year ago that I would be clean and divorced I would have thought you insane! The drugs have actually been easier to recover from. I am alone now with myself so I guess it’s time to start finding out who I am and start to love myself without needing another to be happy! Best of luck to you may we heal from our losses and start to enjoy life again:pray:t2:
Well said.
I feel this. Maybe not exactly a love affair, but saying goodbye to a friend. A friend that one day was a fun distraction, but other days was the bad friend that said "stop being a sissy and do something stupid!!" I can still remember the look in his sad little eyes when when he said "you're leaving me? But why?"
To that I said "sorry brother, but I have to kill you to save myself"
The idea was brought home to me by the book, Drinking: A Love Story, by Caroline Knapp. The excerpt below is excellent
