The hardest part of this isn’t staying sober. It’s got to be mending the broken relationships. Wife, kids, parents, friends….all of it. All different, all just soul crushing.

Our past is the hardest thing to forgive with loved ones for sure. Only time heals. Show you mean this new life and almost always things get healed. Hardest part, forgiving yourself. Has to come first. The new you needs to step in and throw away that past you.

James, you are absolutely correct. However, there is a solution to our problems. We take personal inventory of ourselves, we write them down, we tell ourselves, God and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Then we make a list of people who we have harmed and make amends to them all unless to do so would injure them or others. Then we go out and guide another Alcoholic through the same step process.
I can say from my experience that I can walk around society with my head up and look people in the eyes. I have zero shame, guilt and I love myself today. God is doing for me what I couldn’t do for myself. I’m currently working on my amends. I’ve done a few of them and it’s changed my life. Forgive yourself for the past. Love yourself today. Right your wrongs. Be of service. Live joyous and free.

Amen to that♥️ Beautifully said

I guess I was(am) too naïve to have imagined that the most important person wouldn’t forgive me. I was too blind and naive and selfish to see that you can truly damage people too much and nothing you ever do after that is enough. That’s the emptiest feeling I’ve ever felt.
