The longest I’ve gone without drinking is 6 months, but that was during Covid when everything was shut down. I’m also a bartender so it’s a complicated factor. Been trying to get back on that but the longest I’ve gone recently is a week.

I wouldn’t put so much focus on the time. It seems like it discourages you. That’s why I don’t count the days. I just take it a day at a time. I feel much better mentally and physically abstaining from alcohol. I just feel better not drinking and it took many slip ups to get to the point I’m at right now. Just go at your own pace and try not to put pressure on yourself. I can see bartending making sobriety extremely hard. I think it’s awesome you are self aware of this and you are trying.

Thank you! That’s a great point and you are totally right. I obsess over the time/days and then if I slip up it’s catastrophic in my head and I’m so defeated. It also makes me think about it constantly. It’s almost like dieting. When I’m not dieting I naturally eat pretty healthily and when I’m hungry. When I have the idea of “dieting” in my head all of a sudden eating junk is all I can think about.
