The only requirement for AA is a desire to stop drinking. That's all I was told the first time I walked into a meeting and to keep coming back. What were you told your first meeting?
Yes. That is tradition 3.
This is the preamble which would be read at the meetings I use to go to. It describes what you’re talking about. Some other good rules of engagement as well. Here it is.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self- supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
I was told to read the black words on the white pages in the blue book and to get a sponsor.
I was told AA is the only way to stay sober long term.
So they say. But I like to think there's more than one way to make a salad.
Yup!
This is not a salad.life or death for some people. Aa
