The opposite of addiction is Connection

I heard someone sharing today and heard them basically say that the opposite of addiction is connection. Through our disease of addiction/alcoholism we usually end up completely isolating ourselves for various reasons. We also tend to get ostracized and isolated through stigmas that society places on us as addicts/alcoholics.

I personally couldn't agree more. The more sober/clean connections I make and relate to other addicts/alcoholics the easier the healing and recovery process became. Those connections became my higher power, a power greater than myself. Eventually I found a connection with another higher power. A divine higher power. A power that I believe put those people in my life to connect and relate with.

In the NA "How it works" it basically says the samething.

"We feel that our approach to the disease of addiction is completely realistic for the therapeutic value of one addict helping another is without parallel. We feel that our way is practical, for one addict can best understand and help another addict. We believe that the sooner we face our problems within our society, in everyday living, just that much faster do we become acceptable, responsible, and productive members of that society."

Anyways it was a poweful message to me and I just wanted to share it with other alcoholics/addicts. Thanks for letting me share.
