The power of belief; if placebos work then why not prayer?

Placebos/prayer doesn't always work, but sometimes it seems as such.
Even a broken watch is right twice a day....
Although I think both of those things can be beneficial because they are connected to a positive mental attitude, like the Bad Brains taught me in the 80's.

Prayer has worked miracles in my life. And I have witnessed it work in others lives also. 
It's really up to the individual and how deep they believe in their higher power.

The act of praying I'm sure provided positive results. The action was all on you though. Nothing on the other end. Just you "putting it in writing", then putting in work to achieve goals. Give yourself a pat on the back, you earned it.
