The street version of the 12 steps

Man look — we dang near ain’t never seen nobody fold who really locked in wit dis program and stood on business. The folks who don’t recover usually the ones who can’t keep it a buck wit theyself or straight up refuse to surrender to dis simple setup. Some people just too prideful, too fake wit themselves, or too stuck in they own ways to get it. But even folks fightin’ demons in they head and heart can still come back if they willing to be real.

Our stories show how grimy life used to be, what went down, and how we movin’ now. So if you tired of livin’ reckless, tired of destroyin’ yourself, and you really want peace bad enough to do whatever it take — then you ready for these steps, my boy.

Now some of us tried to finesse the process and take the easy route. Nahhh… ain’t work like that. We had to come raw and uncut from day one — fearless, honest, and all in. Some of us kept tryna hold onto ego, old habits, street mentality, toxic pride… and nothing changed till we finally let that junk die.

Alcohol? Man that stuff crafty, sneaky, and strong as he:field_hockey::field_hockey: By ourselves we was gettin’ cooked every time. But there’s One with all the power — God. Pray you tap in wit Him ASAP.

Half-steppin’ got us nowhere. We hit rock bottom and finally threw our hands up, askin’ God to guide us and protect us completely. These the moves we made to get free:

  1. We admitted the bottle had us in a chokehold and our lives was straight chaos.

  2. Started believin’ somebody bigger than us could restore our mind and spirit.

  3. Made the choice to hand our life and stubborn will over to God however we understood Him.

  4. Took a hard look in the mirror and called out all our dirt.

  5. Told God, ourselves, and another human the real truth about how foul we been.

  6. Became ready for God to strip away all that toxic mess inside us.

  7. Humbly asked Him to clean us up.

  8. Made a list of everybody we did dirty and got willing to fix it.

  9. Went and made things right wit people when we could — unless it would cause more damage.

  10. Kept checkin’ ourselves daily, and when we slipped or was wrong, we owned it immediately.

  11. Stayed prayin’ and meditatin’ so we could hear God clearer and get strength to move how He want us to move.

  12. Once we woke up spiritually through these steps, we started helpin’ other alcoholics and livin’ by these principles in every part of life.
